I was going for the stars peaking through the tree canopy but everything came out super saturated. Looks like I went over board with HDR.
Hi Nathaniel -- Looks like you nailed the star exposure. As you said, the trees/foreground look a little unnatural. One alternative to an HDR composite would be to "paint" the trees with a flashlight or headlamp. Light painting would allow you to be more selective about exposure values in the foreground. Good luck!
