Tim Zegstroo's picture

New Guy

Hi,
Just started photography as a hobby and I want to learn.
Here is the first image I actually put some thought in as I drove past the subject quite a lot on my way to work.
Let me know exactly what you think and what I can improve.

Hi Tim,
The image is really dark and it is hard to see the subject (broken tree trunk) in the forest foliage. Visually everything is mushed together. The best advise I can give is to look at web site images of forest trees to get an idea on what makes good subjects and how they are isolated from the background. I hope that is not to harsh...but you did ask for opinions...

Hey Michael!
Thank you very much for your advice! You're not harsh at all (especially considering some of the comments I've seen here). Do you think the image could be made better in post or should I just take my loss and keep practicing?
Thank you again for the pointers.

I don't know of any tricks to save this one. You might look at the trunk to see if there is any better angle to capture it without the background clutter.....or any interesting features that can be isolated by shooting tighter. The toughest part of getting started is finding good subjects and light.
