Dramatic portraits of Morgan

It always amazes me how varied the process of bringing an idea to life can be. Some take months of planning, hours of shooting, and even more hours in post. Sometimes the path of creation is instantaneous. This is one of those cases.

Inspired by a chair and a convo with my rep about needing more drama in my book, these images went from idea to end product in a single evening.
Morgan and his lovely Swedish chair.

Strobist: Elinchrom 27.5" octo on camera left from behind subject, feathering across the face. Elincrom 53" octo also on cam left but just behind my shoulder, adding a subtle fill

I really like the lighting! Good job!

Wow! Goes to show you how lighting can really change the mood of a photo. Awesome work.....something for me to aspire to.

Thank you both!

Very solid photo. I might have placed a 2nd strobe either lighting up the wall slightly or pointed at his left shoulder (our right) so we don't lose the black jacket in the black background. Other than that great shot. PS... a reflector could have a similar effect, and its cheaper than another strobe.

Thanks for the tip. I thought about that but I felt adding the separation light made it feel too... intentional and what I always do. I ended up preferring the look of a singular light source in this case.
