Hi! So, I've never asked for critiques before, figured this place was great to try, as some of the images here are outstanding. I can subjectively compare my work to others, but I've literally never gotten any feedback from other photographers. Just looking to see if I'm doing this right! I don't take it all so seriously, but I do enjoy it. Feel free to pick apart the rest of my work as well. Or don't. :)
These were all shot with only Canon speedlites. Octabox, umbrellas, etc. Actually used HSS on most of them. Anyone who wants to discuss that further with me is MORE than welcome to! Opinions on it?
Why HSS?
Nice pictures! Pic1 has a mysterious feel to it. The flash on the left steals a bit too much of the attention imo. Pic2 has a cozy feeling to it. Nice use of light and you do not notice that it is lit by flash. Regarding hss, both pictures were shot well below the maximum sync speed of the camera. Since the point of using hss is to be able to use your flash at shutterspeed over your maximum sync speed i do not see the reason for using hss.
True, but the light also came out pretty even, If I had the flashes at full power, I wouldn't have gotten the second shot, or it would look drastically different.
If there's some alternative to shooting shallow, and still having plenty of light power, I'm all ears! (or eyes)
But thank you either way! I appreciate the feedback!
