Sigma 85 1.4 portraits

Got my hands on the Sigma 85mm 1.4 recently and I must say I was very impressed with this lens. I use Canon 85L most of the time and have to admit - Sigma didn't stay behind at all. Let me know what you think about this one.

Cheers!

Nice one, the background is clear with no distracting features. The colours are clean and the scarf add some vibrant colours without grabbing all the atention. The shirt is a little too attentiongrabbing to nittpick a little. The model has quite a neutral look on his face. Maybe he could have been engaged more to make the portrait more alive. I obviously dont know the model, so that last part is just guesswork. Nicely done portrait and I think that it is clair that the sigma didnt obstruct you from making this great portrait.

Very cool

Really like the look and feel, and overall vibe of this. Really like the expression - subtle, but packed full of personality. Yea, that bit of shirt does catch the eye a little bit, but it's a minor point. I'd happily part with my hard-earned cash for a photo like this.

Very nice portrait, though I think the 85 has a slightly more creamy bokeh.

styling is rich with the scarf, expression is perfect, catchlight is good in the eyes, so they look alive , I like it!

Nice portrait. I've got the Sigma 85 1.4 as well and am very happy with the results I'm getting.. I did a comparison to Canon's 85 1.2 before buying and of course the Canon is an amazing bit of kit, but its hard to justify the difference in price. cheers

Would you mind sharing the EXIF data/settings?

Fantasic portrait. Like the others i think the colors and expression make the photo. As much as I'm anticipating this lens I think it was your skill notthe lens that deserves the credit here.

Nice work, but this is the old Sigma not the new Art lens right?

I love my Sigma 85 1.4 EX DG. Amazing colors, fast AF and bokeh that is sooo close to 85 1.2 L that i never looked back.

KUDOS to you Sir.

stunning but I guess you can do same with many other lens as well, great work!

Very nice portrait . I'd agree about the shirt I didn't notice it at first but once you notice you notice.
I'm curious is this straight out of the camera or has it been processed and colour graded.
It looks too good to be straight out of the camera. I'd prefer in a review to see how something is au natural. With sites like 500px and the processing techniques used you don't know what you are looking at anymore. The raw images are often completely different to the final product .
That doesn't take away from the final image. If I were a client that's how I would want to look.

love it

Damn near perfect in my book.

Wonderfully shot portrait. The colors are a pleasing the eyes . :)
To nitpick i would have cropped/ cloned off the distraction at the left bottom side. Cheers. :)

Interesting observation! Please clarify whether this is the older (and highly regarded) Sigma 85 1.4 EX DG or the new "ART" model. (I assume it is the older model.)

The older model might retain a cult following - with the help of this article - because it is far less bulky and heavy than the newer model. Sometimes older lenses also have a uniquely beautiful rendering (not always!).

Please clarify which Sigma 85mm 1.4 this is. They currently make two.

I want this lens, nice sharpness at f2.2 and not too much vignetting.
Some guys said the sigma art bokeh arn't creamy as the canon and nikon primes lens (harder line and contrast).
So what do you think 85L or 85 Art ?

Hey guys, thanks for all the comments! So, to clarify - the lens I used was the first Sigma 85mm 1.4, not the Art series one. I still have a Canon 85L but in all honesty if I would be buying a 85mm lens now I would go with Sigma and get something else for the rest of the money. Exif info: 85mm/ƒ/2.2 /1/320s /ISO 1000 The left bottom side thing is…a reflector :) I asked him to hold it for me and decided to keep it in the photo to make it a tiny bit "less perfect", if you know what I mean. It's an easy fix though. About editing - 98% was changing the colors from a yellowish kinda warm tones to more of a creamy/pinkish, blue/red theme. I also increased the contrast a bit and did some Dodge & burn to make the bone structure more visible but nothing drastic. I can look for an original and post a before and after if you'd like to see that. Cheers!
