I have used my 100mm macro for portraits in a pinch. It is nice and sharp. It compresses a little much for studio portraits IMO. But I would definitely use it for natural light photos outdoors where I can get some distance between the subject and me and take adantage of that focal length. But that's what the 70-200 is for, right?
