Would love some constructive criticism on this image I shot yesterday. Shot in the front yard of her house using the neighbors house as a backdrop. Only had about 15 minutes to shoot and had to make it work!
For constructive criticism I would start from what I like on the picture. Overall mood is kind of interesting, I do like this black-rised style and crispy look in general so It's nice. Subject is nicely separated from the rest of the image and framing is generally speaking, more or less ok. What I don't like is her pose and facial expression. I believe in 15min it was too little so... Next time you can take look how arms and hands are acting, try to make them more relaxed, not attached to body it gives much more pleasant results on the photos. Also - its quite nice advice to avoid having hands closed down - they usually not look very attractive this way. Her face shows me unpleasant emotion - is this about fact of making her photos? Or because she's bad at something? About retouch - In my opinion face is bit too red, and her head and arm got different color. Apart from that it looks quite ok i think. Keep the good work and good luck on next sessions.
I agree in many ways here. It's a nice image overall. It's odd to me that there's more room on the left side of the frame than on the right, but that's an easy change if you agree. The light on her is nice, but the overall feel of the image is more light / airy while her clothes, posture, and expression seem more negative or uninterested. That really hurts the image for me.
However, that could be what you were going for. I agree that the face/neck seems more red than the hand. But overall it's certainly a nice photo. Well done!
Thank you James, I personally try and never shoot black clothing, but it had been a bit cold and I only had about 15 minutes to get some practice shots(all this shoot was just to practice retouching)
I'll keep all of that in mind though, and improve it for next time. Thank you so much
Hey thank you so much. Looking at it I can definitely see what you are talking about.
As far as the expression, it wasn't meant to be taken seriously. She had thought this photo was funny, and asked if I would keep it.
But yes I can definitely understand what you mean with the closed hands and the different skin tone. Thank you so much for taking the time, I really appreciate it and I'll continue working at it.
you nailed it
