I met a couple of photogs here in NYC who hadn't shot with strobes before so I suggested they come around to my home studio in Brooklyn and have a play around. The aim of the day was to play with a couple of different light setups. For the model, Audrey Twitchell, she wanted some more images to use in her folio, for me, I wanted to get a couple of closer headshots as I tend to not get that close normally for whatever reason.
This is the set shot & retouched by me. Please let me know your thoughts!
This is a lot of shots to evaluate.
For the first shot, I love the hair and rim lights on the model. I like the curves and the pose. Perhaps the retouching on the face could be a little less. The planes on her face almost seem to be a mask of brightness. The light falloff on the background from the dark against her hair to the lighter shades as it is lower is nice.
Image 2 is nice. I like the facial expression and the crop.
Images 3 and 4, nice action shot. Looks like a nice job of lightening the background in post. Having a good, even light on the background might save to post editing time.
Images 5 and 6, nice poses, good expressions.
Images 7 and 8, beautiful lighting, good expressions, good crop. Image 7 has good rim light, image 8 good use of reflector to fill the shadows.
Overall, very good shots. Thank you for sharing your knowledge about flash and photography with others.
Thanks Steve, good feedback :)
