Curious if anyone has any tips and getting local athletes/access to venues in order to do sport portrait work. I've done a little bit of work with friends and using myself as the model, tough to get the timing right on myself. I'd also love to hear any lighting set ups you use and any CC on the photos posted.

If the athlete is associated with a school I usually just ask the school. And I start with the lowest on the totem pole, if you know what I mean. If the janitor will let the kid stay after practice, great. The higher up you go, the more likely someone complains about insurance, etc.
