Mixing Blacklight and Colored Light

Although I've shot with blacklight/UV before, this was actually the first time I used a blacklight source and visible light sources. It's surprisingly easy to blow out the UV-responsive materials... that was probably the hardest part of this shoot. The camera sensor works so much differently than the human eye... very counterintuitive!

Nice! How'd you do it? What were the sources for each; bare bulb, existing light, soft box, etc?

Blacklight (395nm) was an Elation SIX062. The other light was a Hexolux Xum7 (5300°K) set to full flood with a colored gel (used several colors on this shoot). I briefly tried a hair/edge light, but it was cancelling out the blacklight too much (smallish room, lots of bounce).

Thank you so much for sharing!

Did you find a gel color you felt complimented the black light best?

I think the yellow and the red worked the best for the costume/location. I don't recall the gel #'s... and it was either Rosco or Lee brand gel (most likely Rosco). I originally tried a couple greens, but they were awful. ;p
