Nice shot. I like the colour contrasts of the blue/green in the glass and the dark red background.
Too much contrast? I reckon that would depend on the composition and where the lines are leading to in the image. When I'm trying to figure this out on my own images, I squint my eyes to make it blurry, then see if the overall shape is pleasing to the eye. If that blur has no pattern or is unbalanced, I adjust the position in some way.
The face is great here. The hand might have needed a little twist, though, to make it instantly recognisable. Or maybe lighten that shadow area a bit in post-processing. I had to figure it out for a moment or two.

Really, if you're going to push a lens this wide in someone's face, extra bold everything should be the default style.
