I think pushing was a great decision - both because it looks great and you're not falling into a rut. Wonderful model and you shot great images.
..You might want to try a b&w image of the second using the decompose method - it should work for Adobe as well as Gimp

Love the second pic, in my opinion you did very well with popping the colors and making the pic look more lively !
These are really beautiful shots, great blend of a natural sensibility while making the colors and detail really pop.
