Flash - Yongnuo 685 and 622TX Triggers

Hi all!

I have 2 flashes, 2 receivers and 1 controller. One flash/receiver mounts on my camera and the other flash/receiver mounts on a light stand. I use this set up for small receptions. As I am newer to this system, Is it possible to control off camera flash in manual while keeping on camera flash manual by using the controller in hand? I shoot eit D7200. Any insight will be greatly appreciated;)

Hi there Carly,

I will try an answer it in small bits.

If I understand you correctly, you have three 622 and two 685's. Normally, one 622 (Controller) has to be mounted on the hot-shoe of your camera to transmit the radio signal out to corresponding transceivers.

Most Yongnuo speedlites do have manual capabilities.

In your case, as I understand, the 685 speedlite has a build-in 622 compatible radio receiver capabilities. So...In theory at least, you should be able to set your flash system up with one 622 mounted on the hot shoe, wired and connected to your camera and the other 622 as a remote to activate everything else.

Please note, as I understand, the 685 in your current suggested set up will only function in slave mode.

Having said all this, Yongnuo manual are not always English friendly...so give yourself some uninterrupted time to get your head around any potential language issues. The challenge is accessing the menu system of the 685's.

Install all units with brand new batteries, make sure they are linked up. Obviously, test all units individually to make sure they are functioning correctly and they are all compatible with D7200.

Good luck.

You could actually use both flash units off camera with the controller on your camera. You can also mount the flash on your camera and use the iTTL function of the camera. The YN685's can be manually adjusted as slaves. Depending on which controller you have ( I think it takes the YN622N-TX controller), the flash power and zoom may be controlled from the flash controller.
