2nd Shoot for a bunch of weddings first so you can get used to the flow of how most weddings go.

Backups. Backup camera body, lenses, batteries, memory cards, speedlights, etc.

Stay hydrated, bring some snacks. And when you get the chance to sit down for a bit, DO IT!

Scope out the locations ahead of time, if it's possible.

And have fun!

The more assistants you bring the less stress you will have on yourself.

And bring a few sweat towels. If you're shooting the wedding yourself, you're going to be running a lot. And probably a little stressed by trying to get "the" shot, worrying about your equipment failing, trying to get in position, etc. Like Lee said, the more assistants you bring, the less stressed you'll be. I've done weddings by myself and with an assistant...with an assistant is 2000% better. Take part of your payout and pay someone to help.

If you're new to the job study tons of wedding images, especially blog posts of full day shoots and make a list of the important shots so you don't forget anything. Talk to the couple about any shots that they "must" have... Some wont tell you until they get the shots back and you didn't get it. you can also find lists of teh "must have" shots online in a few places (take these with a grain of salt)
Wear really comfortable shoes, according to the pedometer in my iphone the last wedding I shot (huge wedding with many locations) I walked 16kms but some of that was being dragged into a dance circle.
Try to forget every photographer that has come before you and shoot it in your style, if you fake it it'll show.
Relax and enjoy yourself, weddings are awesome, punk rock, explosions :-)

thanks guys really appreciate all of it

Good luck and please post back to let us know how it went for you. What worked/didn't work and what you feel you could have done better. We'd all appreciate the tips on your experience.

Find clothes that look nice enough, but are made for a range of movement and can manage moisture. Columbia makes great button down shirts that dry sweat quickly and are very breathable. It's amazing how much more energy you have after 6-7 hours when your body is effectively regulating its temp. Also, clothes made for lots of activity just last longer.

And yeah, for the sake of your sanity, get a good assistant.

hey guys the wedding went well had an assistant was a bit tricky at times because of direct sunlight
