I would try avoiding photos of guests with the sun poking through the trees causing the light/dark shadows on her face. It might be somewhat ok on the body but it's not too flattering on the face. Try controlling the light with a diffuser. You can get these pretty cheaply, they usually fold up into a circle, and you can have an assistant hold it over the subject's head to even out the sun poking through. Outside of the diffuser, a little fill flash might have corrected this as well.

Ironically, here's an article from Fstoppers about fill flash. The equipment is a little over the top but you could do the same with a speedlight and small diffuser.

I have PocketWizards for my speed lights and have used High Speed Sync when shooting outdoors in bright sun. It allows me to shoot with a wide aperture like f/2.8 or f/4 and not overexpose the shot. It's a lot of fun to play with. If you can invest in wireless triggers, it takes your off camera flash game to a new level.
