off camera lighting with strobe and light metering

Hi everyone!

Im new to this group and was wanting to reach out to see if anyone could help me with my question. I recently purchased the einstien 640 strobe and the Sekonic L358. I set my ISO to 100 and my shutter to 100 on the light meter and positioned my flash about 4 feet away from my subject. Why is my light meter giving me such high apeture readings of 23? The highest apeture my camera can go is 16. Stuck and confused on what to do! Please help. Thanks.

either turn down the power on your flash, or move it away from your subject. You should be able to sync your flash up to 1/250 so maybe up your shutter speed as well.

it has to do with the power of the strobe. the website says the strobe has 9 stops. 640 w from 4 feet is strong as hell. A full power speedlight would be at shooting less then half power. I suggest shooting higher shutter speed (not sure if it has hss but if it does you can use that) and backing it up. Also you could add a diffuser or shoot it into a bounce if you need more room. If your using a 640 you could have it in reception pointed at the ceiling and still light the entire room.

Thanks for the feedback! It worked. Love this group already=) !
