I love this image that I captured at a recent wedding. I know it needs a little adjustment in contrast, but I am wondering your thoughts on the background? I feel like its distracting, but it might look odd if it was edited to a different one.
I find the blownout parts of the background distracting.
If you can recover the highlights, I'd try that first.
But either way, I'd try to balance the image a bit more. My eye is drawn to the right, and maybe increasing the exposure on the left (the couple) will help balance out the image?
Thanks. I think thats what my issue is with it, the eye isn't drawn to them. I thought I cranked the highlights back as much as possible. Maybe a gradient filter could help the rest.
Yeah, having just a little bit of the dress cut off makes me anxious, trimming the shot in by almost half of the bright background, would fix the dress problem and put the edge of the wall on the third line, balancing out the bright background with twice as much darker foreground. I would then suggest that with less of the bright area you could go the other way and blow it out even more, bringing you couple up a stop or two, and giving you room to brush in a little colour and texture to the brickwork so they really pop.
I have no problem with non-important areas of the image blowing out, and I think with wedding photos that can add a dreamlike effect to it.

Just noticed, since the dress is already cut off a bit, maybe tightening the crop a little will also help.
