So I shoot weddings. I'm holding my camera 6-12 hours straight. I currently use the default strap that came with my DSLR but it is uncomfortable and the straps are constantly slide putting my camera at risk (if they get to the end, the strap releases and my camera falls).
All this being said, I'm debating whether to get a hand strap or an upgrade neck strap. What do you guys use for prolonged event shooting and what brand?
I'm down to a Black River neck strap or a Herringbone Heritage Leather handstrap.
I just got a Peak Design Slide strap (Neck Strap) and it is seriously amazing. Check them out! I prefer a neck/shoulder strap for weddings and I've never tried a hand strap because I use my hands for manuevering and fixing details. I think it would get in the way...
I'm currently using a dual camera strap by Hold Fast, similar to the black rapid. I really like it. If you want a neck strap the crumpler canon strap is pretty amazing.
People might think I'm crazy but I have been using the normal Nikon strap for my entire career. The biggest thing I've learned to make it sit on your shoulder well and not get in the way is to hang the camera so that the lens is facing in towards your body. This pulls the weight in towards you and I have found that it sits well on my shoulder without having to sling it across my chest/back.
For me personally, I hate having huge bulky straps that take up extra room in my case and I also don't want to have to use my camera's tripod plate to lock my strap to my camera. Maybe I'm just the odd man out on this issue though
sling strap! if you are rocking 2 cameras, the holdfast cant be beat (in my opinion) other then that any decent sling strap will work. neck straps over the coarse of a day will pull you into a slouched position causing pain in the thoracic spine. If you fight that pull all day, you will still be soar from fighting it all day. Its better to get the weight onto a joint and muscle group that can handle more load then your neck.
if you can get a normal neck strap to stay put on your shoulder like Patrick then rock on! I just was never able to. the key is to get it off your neck.
I ended up with the BlackRapid RS-7. I'm in love with this thing. Though, I will admit, hanging my camera upside down, from the tripod mount, is quite unnerving.
