Seto Machhindra Nath

Seto Macchindranath is a highly respected deity of Kathmandu Valley, Nepal, worshipped by both Hindus and Buddhists. He is an important symbol of compassion, protection, and religious harmony.Seto Macchindranath is also known as Aryavalokiteshvara in Buddhism.

Among Newars, he is called Janabaha Dyah.
“Seto” means white, which symbolizes purity and peace.Buddhists worship him as a form of Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva of compassion.

Hindus regard him as a manifestation of Lord Shiva.
This shared worship reflects the unique coexistence of Hinduism and Buddhism in Nepal.
His main temple is located at Janabaha (Kathmandu).

Devotees visit the temple daily to offer flowers, lamps, and prayers.
Special rituals are performed during festivals and jatras.
