Emma, love your composition, but if I might suggest stopping down your diaphragm/aperture and taking advantage of your lens' hyperfocal distance range. Do some tests starting @ f/8 and work down through you stops till f/16-f/32 whatever your minimal is. I know it's country to popular practice and even to what your professors may be teaching you.
