This photograph is an 8 image stitched panorama, taken handheld, over the course of about 10 seconds. These images were then stitched together in Capture One, and the resulting image was brought into Photoshop to remove ghosts, people who were appearing twice, distracting elements, and to fix alignment issues within the stitch.
When approaching this photo, I wanted it to have icons of London and its famous spots, without them being the primary subject. I also wanted the colours and general vibe of the image to feel timeless, as if it could have been taken 50 years ago on a square-format film camera (ignoring the modern elements).
I enjoy that, throughout the frame, a variety of subjects and points of interest can be found. I envisioned an image that, every time you came back to it, you may find a new detail. Pigeons on a wall, friends taking each others photographs, scammers selling balloons. This informed the edit as, when in Photoshop, I elected to edit out elements that caused mess or distracted the eyes. Rubbish on the street, erroneous birds, cranes in the distance.
