Road to Another World

This photo was shot with an IR-converted camera, and a 720nm IR filter.

I'd been experimenting with infrared for some time; looking for subjects where infrared helps them stand out - when I discovered this.

I have a general theme in my images, lines leading out into the image; but not leading to a specific subject - sometimes the infinite is the subject. Here the road disappearing above the hill fits the theme - not revealing what lies down the road.

Capturing it wasn't easy. With to the IR filter mounted, the optical viewfinder is useless - so I only had live view available for composing the shot. The screen on the 7D doesn't tilt, I was struggling with reflections, and an awkward angle with the camera very close to the ground. I also needed to be aware of any traffic, setting up camera on the middle of a road.

But I'm super happy with the result; so far my only portfolio IR shot.
