American Black Vulture

300 mm · f/5.6 · 1/1600 · ISO 1600

Seen for the first time in New York State in 1981, the American black vulture has expanded its range into the northeast. This one was part of a flock of about a dozen birds feeding on a carcass of a dead deer in the Bear Mountain State Park, near the Hudson river, hour and a half north on New York City.
