Photography with color gels is way more than just slapping some colors on your flashes and calling it a day. I recently played a lot with the color's intensity either through half and quarter gels or with the brightness of the lights.
Here I decided to put a half cto-gel on the right and a full cto to the left (both strip lights), so the face would not be hit with such a hard color and mix a bit better with the teal ambient light from the soft box above the camera.
