Rufigi Rain

560 mm · f/8 · 1/1000 sec · ISO 160

Normally, the "small rains" in Tanzania start in November. The rains fall mostly as afternoon showers, with lots of sun in the morning and later on towards evening. But on a visit to the Nyerere National Park in Tanzania in November 2019, the weather was unusually wet. We were fortunate to find this White Fronted Bee-eater perched in a tree at the edge of the Rufigi River. He was drying off during a brief sun-break.

I took the picture with a Canon EOS 7D Mark II, with a Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS II USM lens with a Canon 1.4x III tele-converter. The exposure settings were 1/1000, f/8, ISO 160, focal length 560 mm, hand-held. I took the picture on November 22, 2019.
