Abstract Lights

All photos from this serie were taken in the Brussels Metro. I close the diaphragm as much as possible, and I set the iso on the minimum value to obtain an exposure comprised between 1 and 10 seconds. I release the shutter when the metro is moving, and I move the camera as well. The conjunction of the camera movements and metro motion allows me to create these somewhat unreal and psychedelic images.
The artistic project behind this approach is to start from the banality and ugliness of something as prosaic and down to earth as commuting and to distort them through time and motion. By doing that, I create abstract images that have nothing left to do with the reality of day-to-day routine they're made of. It is all about showing that there's a whole fantastic universe hiding behind the banality of day-to-day, if we only care about looking for it.
