Sunglasses Stacked on Bamboo Boxes

I must of balanced and rebalanced these glasses dozens of times, but in the end, it was worth the time and effort. The lenses are lit just to the left of camera with a spot into a piece of white paper. The edges and sides of the glasses are lit with a strip box from the left, a grid spot from the right, and multiple cards to reflect and fill. A behind the scenes photo of the setup can be seen here: https://flic.kr/p/HGpRgb

I liked your work with the glasses so much, that I started following you after seeing them. After studying the image, I realized that there's a difference in the way the light plays with the crystals, being stronger in the one on top, and lighter in the bottom one. May I ask if you considered matching the intensity of the reflection on all three? Happy weekend.

Thanks for the comment and follow.

Your comment made think about my setup. I went thru my phone and found a behind the scenes picture I took of the setup. My original description of the setup was incorrect, so I've changed my description and added a link to the behind the scenes photo (here: https://flic.kr/p/HGpRgb).

The lenses don't reflect the same thing, mostly due to their different angles. The top glasses are reflecting fairly high up, while the bottom glasses are reflecting much lower. With the setup I used (grid spot into a large piece of white), it wasn't really possible to get them all to reflect the same without using a much broader light source. A broader light source would of lit the image as a whole too flatly. The biggest battle in this image was striking a balance between making the lenses look as good as possible (even though they're all a bit different) while keeping some shadows and depth in the overall image. It's possible that the lenses could be manipulated in post to try to make them all similar, but I try to do as little post processing as possible.

Thanks for sharing that BTS. It looks like a nice exercise of patience and lighting.
