Vigogne entre deux feux

Lunar-like landscape from the Salinas & Aguada Blanca National Reserve in Peru. Surprisingly, this high altitude, volcanic ground is the habitat of the vicuña, the wild cousin of the alpaca. Conservation efforts and prohibition of vicuña wool trade helped increasing their numbers from an alarming 6 000 in the late 60’s to more than 100 000 in recent years.
