I went up to see the Pt. Reyes lighthouse the day after Christmas - it is one of famous west coast lighthouses and accessible by a rather steep climb down of about 300 steps.
I used a very long exposure for this shot because even as I took this shot, there were people climbing up the stairs and using such a long exposure made sure their image did not appear on the final image.
I shot this with F/16, 239s, ISO 100 with my Canon EOS 6D, EF 24-70mm F/2.8L USM II lens at a focal length of 70mm.
I took a chance with not placing the lighthouse using the rule of thirds because I think due to the nice leading lines of the stairs it still makes it a compelling composition wise. I used a 10 stop Haida ND filter in conjunction with a 3 stop soft grad Lee filter for this shot.
One tip for visitors: If you plan to go there hoping to catch a sunset go in the winter because the park closes by 5 and if the sun sets much later, like in summer, the sun will not be at a nice angle to get the sunset colors in your shot.
