Rock Piles-76

ROCK PILES. The quartz monzonite forming the rock piles was once part of a molten mass which was forced upward into the overlying older Pinto gneiss rock. The monzonite cooled before reaching the surface and crystalized into solid rock. Erosion has stripped away the darker Pinto gneiss exposing the outcrops.
