This was taken the morning after Christmas, just before the sun came up. This particular view came from just outside the park.
As I was driving through Springdale, I saw how the light was hitting these western peaks and I just had to capture it. So I pulled into the first parking lot that I could find that had a reasonable vantage point and set up the tripod.
I'm often surprised at how many really incredible views I am able to capture simply from pulling off to the side of the road!
