To capture this image, I drove 30 minutes from the Grand Canyon village at 10:00 PM on December 27, 2016, to Lipan Point along Desert View Drive. There was no moon so the canyon was pitch black and the stars were phenomenal, I could faintly see the milky way cloud with my naked eye. While the winter milky way cloud isn't as commonly photographed as the dramatic summer milky way, the results were still amazing and on the top left third of the image the andromeda galaxy is visible. There was absolutely no light pollution from where I took this picture, although in the distance there were three faint lights creating an orange glow on the horizon.
