They are part of the Ozogoche lake complex, composed of 55 lagoons, in the foothills of the Cordillera Real.
Also known as the lake of punishment or lake of penitence because this was a place of punishment to those who violated the laws of the native puruhaes indians. The prisoners were abandoned until they starved or drowned as they attempted to swim in the cold waters.
