Southern Stacks

A beautiful winter sunrise in Vik on the south of Iceland. I still can't believe how lucky I was to be standing on this beach. I was fortunate enough to win a trip to Iceland through an Instagram giveaway and was thoroughly rewarded with great conditions the whole trip!

The waves on this beach can be very dangerous! They can be huge and surprisingly sneaky. On the hike over to this location I saw one photographer almost loose his camera to a wave and another tourist get soaked from the waist down. To make it to this spot I had wait for a receding wave and then run for some rocks to climb up and over before the next wave came. Once on the other side I passed through a short tunnel in the cliffs and finally made the hike to this location.

I got my camera settings dialed in from a safe distance and then ran up to these rocks has the water receded in between sets of waves to fire off some photos. After a couple times of doing this, and running from incoming waves, I came away with a shot I was happy with.
