Two or three times a month I visit Big Dog Ranch Rescue to capture and create pooch portraits to help the rescue dogs get adopted. One photo can change many lives and make a difference in the world. It also helps me keep sharp and hone my skills further. Working alone with the dogs using a tie down to keep them in a relatively small area is how I prefer to work. I have my canon 5d mk iii in my right hand and a yongnuo flash in my left shooting high speed sync. Since I need to be on the move light stands are too cumbersome and I want to be able to adjust the flash based on my moving subjects. Shooting a low depth of field insuring that the subject is the focus and helps display their unique personalities without distractions. Holding a squeaky toy in my mouth, whistling and making all kinds of wacky noises helps get eye contact.
