I'm working on a Pier Collection and I was only in La Jolla, CA for only one day. I was all setup and prepared for what looked to be a showy sunset. The sun was going to set right between the pillars. I, as well as several other photographers eagerly watched the sun go and the colors start to bleed across the sky and then suddenly... A marine layer rolled in and obscured the sun, the colors, everything. It looked like a total bust and everyone else packed up but I decided to see what would happen if I switched up and went long exposure instead and just let the blah sky over expose and blow out. I'm glad I did.
