”THE DRESS”

I went to look for a decent stairway in theaters and other big buildings in Helsinki for this project, but it wasn’t´t until I found this staircase at Hotel Kämp that I was happy with it.

I explained what kind of a picture I wanna shoot to the hotel and they got really exited about it and were very helpful with all the arrangements, so a big thank you to the awesome staff of Hotel Kämp!

Since the scene was so huge I wanted to include some ambient light as well, hence a longer shutter speed, but I was shooting on a tripod with an experienced model so I was confident it wouldn’t be a problem.

Can´t really draw a lighting diagram since the lights were on three different floors, like literally, but I will explain how every strobe was positioned:

Exif for the shot are:
- 1/25s
- f/6.3
- ISO 400
- Canon 16-35mm f/4.0L IS USM (at 16mm)
- Canon 5D markIII
- 2 x Godox AD600
- 3 x Godox AD200
- Trigger Godox X Pro C

I used 5 flashes on three different floors (haven´t done that before..) for this shot, two Godox AD200 beneath the stairs to light up the walls, they had red gel on them. Camera left on same floor as I´m standing on I had a Godox AD600 with a shoot trough umbrella bouncing from the walls to light the dress, on the next floor (above me) I had a Godox AD600 with a 90cm Octabox as the mainlight for the model, it was mounted on a c-stand. The fifth and last light was also a Godox AD200 behind the stairway pillar camera right, at the same level as the model, pointed at the models back.

Thats pretty much it.., was a fun shoot to make…!
