Space Beyond the Rock

El Matador beach is one of the places that reminds you why you pay so much to live in Los Angeles (and believe me you need those reminders often). The key to this shot working was the security light on a nearby house that cast a warm glow on the rocks. The more I attempt wide-field astro-photography the more I've realized how "light pollution" can actually be a creative tool. Yes black nights are great for getting the most stars, but without a properly illuminated landscape they become just white noise on a black sheet.
