I really like it, as well as all your images, but the blurring in post is obvious and therefore, too much.

Thanks, happy to hear you like it. I never blur in post. This is what 150mm F/2.8 looks like from that perspective.

Really!? I've never seen such a linear drop off, even at 200mm and f/2.8. Perhaps it's a result of a dip in the foreground.

The lens hood was practically resting on the ground for this shot. We're looking at about 15m of compressed foreground. Probably that's the reason the gradient looks so steep. Focus doesn't fall off linearly but resembles more of a logarithmic function with distance. Extreme compression will lead to a sharp looking cut off in the DOF.
You can try it yourself with a fast lens on the living room carpet and the camera resting on the floor.

Physics can explain pretty well what we are looking at here. However, if it looks fake and therefore distracting it doesn't matter how the effect came to be. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I'll try to avoid it in the future.
