Location: Oculus - WTC Station, New York City
When shooting a prominent building with millions of visitors and photos of it out there, it is hard to find that angle that makes your image stand out. When you see images of Oculus most people settle for the shot that portrays the grand feeling this building gives the commuters. I visited the building numerous times but never settled on a shot that I was pleased with.
Having an architecture backgrounds and knowing the story behind architect`s design made me rethink the way I looked at it. Calatrava, the architect behind this design, is also a sculptor and treats each of his buildings as a sculptural piece. On my last visit, the more I looked at the building the more sculptural details I was noticing. This shot of the exterior structural elements struck me as an elegant and sophisticated representation of the architect`s intent.
Den25, I totally agree, the more popular the more challenging and the more creative the photographer need be otherwise might as well use a Xerox machine.
