Smoky Mountain Sunrise

On a recent trip to the Great Smoky Mountains, I wanted to climb to the top of Clingmans Dome to watch the sunrise. We picked the day with the best weather forecast and made the short, steep hike up. When we got to the top, we were shrouded with clouds and had very low visibility. We waited for the sun to rise, and then continued waiting after the sun had risen, only catching small, occasional glimpses of the scenery. We had just about decided to turn back and go down as most other people had done, but decided to stick it out just a little bit longer. Our patience was rewarded with some breathtaking views such as this one. This turned out to be a theme of the trip as we experienced many similar conditions: patience payed off.
