Towards the end of Summer here in Yorkshire I spotted what appeared to be a carpet of purple in the distance on the landacape, I just had to get closer to see what it was.
As I got closer it was clear it wasn't lavender and I thought it might have been a field of thistles, but who plants a field of thistles i thought? I since learned it was a rare field of Phacelia that i stumbled across.
It was a beautiful evening and the day was drawing to a close so I had to get a move on if I wanted to make something of it. I climbed over a hedge and jumped a drainage ditch and was in the field. Covered in beautiful flowers, bees everywhere collecting pollen it was a beautiful experience.
Looking for a composition I spotted one flower head right in the middle that was taller than the rest and with the sunset breaking through woodland in the background giving some lovely backlight I knew I had found my shot. I took out my retro Minolta Beercan 70-210 as this gives a lovely warm feel to any photo. With the breaking sunlight the trees in the background turned into some fantastic bokeh on the camera. I love this image, hope you do too.
