I haven't asked myself why yet, but I love shooting slightly awkward portraits. I think it has to do with the slight sense of humor combined with beauty. I'm also not sure if awkward is the correct term I should use. But this shot is an example.

I would say vulnerable, honest, frank, refreshing are words that more accurately represent your approach to posing. To my way of thinking awkward denotes a lack of grace and generosity, two dynamics your work do not lack.
This image reveals so much more than most portraits do and it does so by not being "posed" in a more mainstream way.
Your models willingness and skill to open up combined with your elegant treatment combine to create a portrait that is anything, everything, but Awkward.
