Watching Over The Watchman

This is an incredibly popular spot during sunset but it's once the crowds disperse and the tripods clear out that the real show begins. This was my first time using a star tracker and I was amazed to see how much of our galaxy isn't visible to the naked eye. I was initially concerned about light pollution from cars passing through the valley but their headlights provided perfect light painting on the face of The Watchman. This was the result of about 2 hours of shooting but I was beaming on the long hike back knowing that I finally had my own take on this classic shot.
