One of my favorite locations in NYC, offering iconic views of the Manhattan skyline. Framing and alignment is important in this shot. Background is filled with symmetrical elements (railing, buildings), and I wanted to place the family amidst buildings that wouldn't detract from their moment. Normally, I'd shoot this portrait with my lens wide open to soften the background and minimize distractions. However, using that method here would result in the buildings being too soft and unrecognizable, so the lens had to be stopped down to f/8 in order to preserve their texture and shape.
Photographed using natural light only.
Adorable! Love all their smiles :)
