The hood

The Aurora is unpredictable and not only as regards its appearance but also its shape, and that's probably what makes Northern Lights photography so exciting.
This was my first Aurora of the season captured last September in Iceland, where the Aurora decided to create a "hood" over the magic mountains of Vestrahorn.

Hats off master Dan!

If you've never shot aurora, then you won't know how difficult this shot is. A short shutter speed is required to preserve aurora detail, but then how to also get detail from the dimly lit foreground?
