Kintsugi is a Japanese tradition of repairing broken objects, usually with some form of gold in order to maintain or enhance the beauty of the object. The belief is that damage to an item should be honoured and considered beautiful, as it is a part of the history of the item - something that makes it unique.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if we treated our own flaws this way? I think we often set ourselves impossible standards of perfection, and punish ourselves for our mistakes and character flaws. Perhaps we should adopt a spiritual form of kintsugi and learn to see beauty in our flaws, pains and mistakes - for they have made us who we are.
The cracks were created in Photoshop using a variety of overlays, layer masks and a lot of trial and error!
