In this case, your multi-exposure approach really works for me, Alan. I like the monochrome and the toning. It is a bit like a charcoal sketch, and I'm quite mystified that this got a less positive reaction elsewhere than your colour images of this broad kind. Interesting tree, split to the base like that.
