Hanged in Varanasi

This photo was taken during my travel to Varanasi. Hindus burned their dead in the pyres of ghats along the banks of Ganges river. They believe that by burning the body, the can break the cycle of rebirth. This is what they call "Moksha". There are many stacks of firewood being sold along the river bank for this purpose.
