Here's a keeper from a recent shoot at the beach with Ally Teeples (@Allyteeples) that I'm really proud of. There are two distinctions to be made about this shot (and the day in general):
1) It was entirely unintended -- Funny how that almost always leads to my best keepers. Ally was fixing her hair for a pose and she jested the idea of flipping her hair, and we decided to run with that. I figured I'd give AF-C with Eye-Autofocus a try and boy that did not disappoint for this type of shot! We actually got 3 keepers in a very short time.
2) I deliberately challenged myself to work well out of my comfort zone by using a wider Sigma 35mm 1.4 lens for this shot. I normally use a Sigma 105 1.4 but I felt it would render an excessively flattering perspective and take away from the creative context of the leading lines and the sky. I'm happy I experimented and came away with results that changed my perspective (pun intended) about certain focal lengths, especially for creative looks.
Needless to say, shooting at the beach on a cloudy day gave us exceptional results. I would say shooting in any inclement weather is actually favorable towards the purpose of creative endeavor and I encourage it.
